Blogging-Resource of choice

The Web 2.0 resource that stood out and is my favorite is the blogging resource. I think this resource is so beneficial to learning because teachers can use this tool in many ways. Teachers can post a question for the students and students will have to comment, maybe twice during the week. This allows students and teachers to remain connected to the material they are learning out of the classroom. It is also beneficial to parents and teachers because teachers can post questions or answer questions that would help other parents if they had the same question. It is an open form of communication for all individuals involved in education.

*I hope you enjoy my blog thus far ;)

Changes for a global educational experience

Question: What do you see as a needed change in order to for children to have a global educational experience?

My answer: There are a few things I think that are needed for children to have a global educational experience. I think for one all schools need to be up to date with their technology to level the resources available to all students. Students need to be taught the same mandated technological curriculum. If students are taught the new software tools all over the world then they will be able to communicate globally. In the classroom we need to focus more on technology and not so much on “teaching to the test”. Students need to learn how to properly use the new technology they are presented with and learn how this new technology can be harmful to them if used in the wrong ways. Students need to learn how to communicate through blogs, podcasts, and to create wikis in order to use these tools as a way of communication through education. Students no longer need to have pen pals in which they hand write letter to them. A class could have a class blog in which the other class around the world can log on and update the blog weekly. Students can start a wiki on a certain subject area and invite another class around the world learning the same material to help add, delete, fix, or anything to the wiki. All of these ideas are what today’s world is coming to. We can’t continue to teach out of a text book but we can’t be required to cover such vast areas in the curriculum. Something has to give and it’s not going to be the advancement of technology.

I am sad to say I have learned all this amazing technology in the past 6 months and I haven’t had a lot of time incorporating it into my classroom. With funding being low, technology being outdated and unreliable and the curriculum being so jam packed I haven’t been able to work it in as often as I’d like to.

Students need to learn how to communicate on the internet correctly and they need to learn how to efficiently search for material needed. Teachers need to understand that the world is changing and it is changing quickly. In order for students to adapt and learn the correct way how to adapt and work with this new technology teachers need to not only learn the technology but also adjust their teaching styles to incorporate these new resources. This is a difficult change for some. We need to continue to learn these new programs in order to properly educate our young ones.
